[Night on EarthㅣMUSIC] Jehwi <Echoes: 1st Night on Futura>

Musician Jehwi released his new track Echoes on October 6, 2024, opening the first chapter of Futura Seoul’s long-term project album Night on Earth. Among the four overarching themes—human, nature, machine, and the future they will create—this first theme, human, focuses on love, the most universal of human emotions.

This track is particularly inspired by Machine Hallucinations Series by Refik Anadol, currently presented in 100 Poems at Futura Seoul. Singer-songwriter Sam Kim participated in writing the lyrics, and the piece brings together emotive piano and vocals with strings and acoustic sounds to complete a deeply layered narrative.

The two musicians pose the question: “What does it feel like to fall in love? Tell me how you feel, falling in love?” This question may be directed not only at us, but also at AI. Rather than offering a definitive answer, Echoes reflects on the feeling that one would fall in love under any circumstances. It seems to suggest that human love may not be a simple emotion, but could also be a kind of human hallucination. As Professor Choi Jae-chun insightfully remarked, “To know is to love,” human hallucinations can be just as beautiful as those of machines.

In this first track of the project, Echoes, Jehwi personally designed the entire process from composition to mixing, aiming to create a unique musical experience in which humans, tools, and space resonate organically throughout the piece.
