FUTURA STORY
Futura Seoul derives its name from the Latin word Futura, meaning “Future.”
Futura Seoul derives its name from the Latin word 'Futura', meaning “future.” Situated in Gahoe-dong, Bukchon, an area steeped in the intellectual legacy of the Joseon era’s literati, Futura Seoul seeks to capture multifaceted perspectives toward the future, grounded in this rich historical context. Futura Seoul seamlessly bridges the past, present, and future, offering a diverse and progressive artistic experience that resonates with individuals, the local community, and the global art world.
To embody the essence of Futura Seoul, we were inspired by the creation of the Futura typeface. The 20th-century modernism movement, which valued rational human judgment, was significantly influenced by Bauhaus principles. The geometric regularity and clarity of the Futura typeface were seen as a visual language that promoted rational thought. Over time, Futura has transcended its role as a symbol of modern simplicity and elegance, becoming known as the “typeface of today and tomorrow,” inspiring people to imagine future landscapes.
Similarly, Futura Seoul aims to play a pivotal role in illuminating the world’s gaze toward the future, powered by both tradition and contemporary art. We will explore genres, media, and concepts that are difficult to categorize, and transform the artistic experiences we uncover into exhibitions and various related programs, fostering organic communication with our audience. For the artists, we are committed to ensuring that their meticulous observation and experimental spirit are not diluted by spatial or commercial demands. We hope that as you step into Futura Seoul, the familiar themes of your daily life will evolve into creative thinking and insights that lead to a brighter future.
